Review: Restore me by Tahereh Mafi

Restore MeSynopsis:

Juliette Ferrars thought she’d won. She took over Sector 45, was named the new Supreme Commander, and now has Warner by her side. But she’s still the girl with the ability to kill with a single touch—and now she’s got the whole world in the palm of her hand. When tragedy hits, who will she become? Will she be able to control the power she wields and use it for good?

Favorite Lines:

“But the fire of true hatred, I realize, cannot exist without the oxygen of affection. I would not hurt so much, or hate so much, if I did not care.”

“Idiots are highly flammable, love. Let them all burn in hell.”

“So this— This is agony. This is what they talk about when they talk about heartbreak. I thought I knew what it was like before. I thought I knew, with perfect clarity, what it felt like to have my heart broken, but now—now I finally understand.”

“In the steady thrum that accompanies quiet, my mind is unkind to me. I think too much. I feel, perhaps, far more than I should. It would be only a slight exaggeration to say that my goal in life is to outrun my mind, my memories.”

My Opinion:

HOLY FREAKIN CRAP.

Restore Me is the fourth book in the Shatter Me series (not counting the two novellas). Originally this series was supposed to end after the third book but Mafi decided to pick it back up and I am beyond ecstatic that she did.

Everything that you knew from the last books is about to be thrown out the window and you get to live through it with Warner and Juliette. This story follows up shortly after the events that took place in book three of the Shatter Me series. Juliette is the Supreme Commander and trying to figure out how to rule. This book is a dual POV book, which has me shook. I love love love hearing from both leads in the ship to see their feelings for each other. Mafi is unlike any other writer I’ve ever read from in the way she can create such complex but completely realistic human emotions in her stories. She is able to capture exactly how characters feel in such a vivid and raw way…there is no other writing style like it.

One thing that I kind of thought was missing from this novel is Mafi’s usual way of descriptive writing. Normally, she uses such beautiful language in her books. She combines lyrical metaphors and heartbreakingly accurate descriptors that I felt were somewhat absent in this book. Don’t get me wrong, they are still present but do not occur as often as they did in the rest of the series; which is a shame because I truly believe this is what sets Mafi apart so much. Don’t take this as me saying this wasn’t worth the read. This book might be the best one in the series so far (I might be bias because I just finished it so it’s fresh on my mind). But this story is full of so much action and drama and emotion that it will leave you wanting to keep turning the page until you reach the end of the book.

Summary:

Like I said earlier, this book takes the series to a whole different level and allows for so much expansion in the future. I think that’s what made it so interesting, the introduction of a whole new area to be explored moving forward; I can’t wait. This book is a must read if you have read the rest of the Shatter Me series. Now I just have to wait a whole year for the next book…
